another little blessing!

Saw a couple of fireflies in the backyard!! I'm always excited to see fireflies. :)

Made an appointment to see the doctor (a real doctor, not a nurse practitioner) at the student health center because I'm really concerned about my sleeping problems. Ideally, I'll be able to go in for an overnight observation at the local sleep research center. I hope I don't have a sleep disorder but it would be nice to be able to rule it out for sure.

  1. I wonder if your sleeping problems may be due to some form of stress ... I have been having sleeping problems again of late (so tired) and I know mine is due to too many things on my place (subconscious worrying?) - anyway trying to relax and slow done (what is it with us workaholics? seems I never seem to learn from my past mistakes :-( )

  2. You're probably overly stressed. My roommate had insomnia and was actually taking prescription sleep aid. She had to make herself stop working at her computer an hour or two before bedtime and it seemed to help. She cut out all caffeinated food and beverages. The little steps helped. Of course, the best is to take a vacation. See if you are insomniac when you're home in M'sia?!

  3. i already stop working at the computer an hour before i want to sleep, but now i think i'm going to make it 2 hours. AND i'm going to get valerian root and other herbal sleep aids.

the insomnia worries me a bit, but what really worries me is waking up every night. i actually remember waking up briefly at least most nights, and that could be a symptom of sleep apnea. i am HOPING i don't have sleep apnea but better to have it checked out.

i don't drink coffee AT ALL! no alcohol, i eat healthy food, lots of fruit and veggies, lots of water, soy milk, oatmeal, i eat meat but in moderate quantities, if i take naps in the afternoon i limit myself to 20-30 mins . . .

when i was back in malaysia i slept about 7-8 hrs at night, and then a 2 hr nap in the morning and a 2 hr nap in the afternoon. :):):) so yeah, i spent literally half my time asleep.

the famous fireflies of Kuala Selangor are leaving the territory; good to know the species can still surprise us elsewhere.

sleep apnea - never heard that one before. but r u more tired throughout the day as a result? have you considered using the times you wake-up to, say, read yrself back to sleep again?

  5. reading for insomniacs is not a good idea--you keep awake even more! plus i'm usually very tired by then and can't think anyway. :)

last night was much better though, i think i was awake only for a little over an hour before i fell asleep!

if i don't get enough sleep i usually feel very irritable and tired, esp in the afternoon. don't feel like working and really have to fight sleepiness.

  6. I would love to do that sleep study thing, personally. I've been told I'm very, uh, interesting in my sleep! I laugh and yell and do all kinds of crazy things.

Your case sounds much more serious as it's interfering with your life. That sucks and I hope everything turns out okay for you : )
