next week

Umm. Leaving next Sat. Aaahhh. Yucks.

Not again.

Wish I have two bodies, so I can live two lives in two places, all at the same time.

  1. I know what you mean! So much to do, so little time.

Could you go into academia and maybe do consulting on the side or during the summer? Or could you take a year off to try consulting before going back to academia? I voted for academia here because if you can do something with your eyes closed, it doesn't sound that challenging! And I don't know if you would enjoy consulting... I don't know why that's an option, why you would be interested in that... or is it that you just kinda want a break from what you're doing now? Ya know? Do you like teaching or do you like writing? What do you like to do? Could you be a consultant and write? If I had my druthers, I'd say, become a professor, and make sure you write a lot (and publish) so that you can get your tenure and try to do consulting on the side... I know it seems impossible (and the first year it might be), but I know professors who do all kinds of stuff on the side... produce films, run lucrative internet websites, run for political office!! Why choose?!

  3. Sorry : ) Okay, I'll simplify it: Teach!

That way if you quit to do consulting, it will be easier to go back, having established some experience in the academic world. It's probably easier to get a teaching job straight out of grad school then if you finish grad school, do something else, then try to teach.

Teach in America because it's more challenging and from what you seem to be hinting at, regarded as more prestigious. That way, if you decide you want to go to Malaysia, having taught in the US, you might be given a better job there then if you went there straight away.

So whatever you ultimately decide to do, I recommend teaching in America first. It will be an experience that will take you further in life. My TWO CENTS!
